When in Sydney....
So we finally made it to our final OZ destination. Sydney, Australia. After flying from Brisbane, we hit Eva's Backpackers at Kings Cross. We arrived pretty late, so the first day we only got to see what's around Kings Cross. That would be homeless people, prostitutes, and drunken sailors. Yes Drunken sailors. What shall we do with them?
The next day we had a bit of a walk around Sydney. Har bour Bridge, Operahouse, the Rocks, and the world famous (but butt-ugly) Sydney Tower. From there we hit the botanical Garden and ended up next to Hyde Park, for a outdoor shortfilm festival. The Sony Tropfest. A festival screened from Sydney to Canberra, Melbourne, Hobart, Perth, and so on. Over 80k of spectators see thse short films and vote for one winner. There are also a jury giving out other prises, not unlike the Zoomin' festival in Oslo, Norway. Pretty good shit I tell you and we enjoyed it to the max. The level was much higher than we thought.
We saw celebs like Brian Singer (X-men and the next Superman) Ian Thorpe!!!!(the austrailian swimmer) and Nicole was supposed to be here. Marit, armed to the teeth with cameras was very disappointed that she did'nt show...
The very next day we headed for the Blue Mountains to visit some of the girls we met on our walk in Milford, NZ. So we were picked up by Lorraine, in the midst of Sydney, and headed for Lawson. When we got there Gabby ("the house elf..."eeeeh, sorry Gabrielle, but blunt humour always is a crowd-pleaser.) was preparing a German meal. Sauerkraut and the lots. Sausages, and kaalrabi. Need I say more. Gute Nacht!
After having breakfast at Gabby (still an house-elf) and Lorraine's (lets make her a fairy) deck, with a magnificent view, all the way from Lawson to Sydney, we headed out for the Blue Mountains.
Let me tell you that the Blue Mountains were beautiful beyond what we'd imagined. We saw for miles, hazy shade of blue, guided safely by Lorraine.
We went to Echo point and saw the Three Sisters, the Tablelands, waterfalls, had an iced coffee, talked about the australian filmindustry, and finished the whole thing off at the old spa-hotel from the fifties, the Hydro Magestic.
We are forever in your debt Lorraine and Gabby, so whenever you find your way to Norway, we will greet you with open arms!!!
Like we said, when in Sydney... and guess what... Sydney is most famous for...????? One guess, OOOOnly one guess!
The Opera.
And here is a guide to the Sydney Opera. READ AND FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY!:
1. Be shure to have a student pass, unless this trick will not work.
2. Next, politely time your time in the line, so you'll get to the register exactly one HALF hour before the opera starts.
3. Ask politely for the leftover tickets that costs 50 AUD. (You can get 250$ tickets buy doing this)
4. Do not haggle the price, 'cause it is a steal, and find your seat.
5. Enjoy
6. Tell all your friends that you went to the opera in Sydney and had a fantastic time.
We went to see Tosca, and I have to tell you about this fantastic performance. Well lets make it short, and to the point. Everyone that is interesting dies, and Tosca stabbes the bad guy to his death, and here is one thing that buggs me. The Bird stabbs the weasel to his death and he still keeps on singing!. What an idiot! U're beeing stabbed to death, and what do you do???? Not bloody hell keep on singing! Yell for help. Yell for help you twerp! (for our norwegian readers that means Idiot!)
Recovering from yesterdays Opera-experience, which left Christian with a feeling of "I didn't expect to like this THAT much, and I can't wait till the opera in Oslo opens" we headed for Bangkok, and the amazing South East Asia!
